How to use shelf talkers

A shelf talker has to do
more than stick to a shelf.

After years of helping brands put shelf talkers into stores, we’ve seen what works, what gets overlooked, and what causes problems later.

Give it one job.

There isn’t much room, and shoppers aren’t stopping to read a brochure. Lead with the one thing you want them to notice: a medal, a new SKU, a key benefit, a pairing, a promotion, or another clear reason to choose the product.

Design for the fixture, not the file.

Before you settle on a size or shape, find out where the piece will actually live. Price rails, shelf lips, wire racks, coolers, and other fixtures call for different mounting styles. A great design doesn’t help much if the store can’t use it.

Make the message easy to scan.

Strong shelf talkers have a clear hierarchy. Give the main message room to breathe, keep supporting copy short, and make sure the important information can be understood quickly. If there’s more to say, a QR code can carry the conversation beyond the shelf.

A shelf talker doesn’t have to be a one-and-done piece. They're all forms of shelf signage. A wobbler extends from the shelf on a flexible strip, while a dangler hangs below the shelf edge. Other shelf talker styles may snap into a price rail, stick directly to the fixture, or stand away from the shelf.
